Heavy Fuel Oil Tanks

Service and Settling Tank
To ensure fuel feed to the main engine, the separated heavy fuel oil (HFO) is first pumped into the settling tank (buffer tank). The connected service tank (day tank) is filled via continuous overflow from the settling tank and is connected directly with the main engine. Heating coils in both tanks ensure an even temperature between 167° and 194°F (75° and 90°C) which keeps the oil pumpable.

Level Measurement with the
VEGAFLEX 61

The heavy fuel oil stored in the service and settling tank has a high storage temperature and contains a number of different chemical compounds. Sticky oil vapors make the level measurement very difficult. The VEGAFLEX 61 guided microwave sensor easily masters this problem. It guarantees a reliable measurement from the top. The space-saving mounting of the cable version makes it the ideal level measuring instrument for all heavy fuel oil tanks.

Cost Conscious Measurement with
VEGAWELL 72

The rugged sapphire ceramic measuring cell can withstand pressure shocks up to 60 times higher than the nominal measuring range and is characterised by high resistance to corrosion and temperature. VEGAWELL 72 is among the most cost-effective instruments for tank level indication, yet still offers the durability and reliability of the sapphire ceramic cell.
